Assam: Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that around 6% of Assam’s GDP has been spent on the state’s health and education which is more than any state in the country. During the Anundoram Borooah Award ceremony, he said that Assam is among the top 5 states in India for its literacy rate.
The Anundoram Borooah Awards were distributed on Wednesday among 16,944 meritorious students who scored 75% or more in their HSLC exams. Sarma mentioned that The Assam Government has spent a total of Rs.34 crores to buy laptops.
Further, he said that his ministry was questioned and criticized for conferring the awards as an election gimmick and whether the government will be able to continue this award but the government made it possible to give away the awards every year to the deserving students.
