A man from Assam’s Jonai was mercilessly lynched by an enraged mob who suspected him to be a child lifter. The incident reported from Jonai’s Boikunthopur in Assam, has set a ripple of reaction from all quarters of the society who have drawn parallels of this incident to that of Abhi-Neel mob lynching case of Doboka in Karbi Anglong district.
The man identified as Golap Baruah of Gogamukh Chutiya village, was found loitering around Koke village in Jonai, when after hearing the screams of a woman, a crowd of more than 100 men rushed towards the sound, surrounded Golap and started beating him mercilessly, suspecting him to be a child lifter.
The Jonai police rushed to the spot and managed to retrieve the unconscious body of Golap and took him to Jonai Civil Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The police have already begun an investigation into incident, raising concerns of a society adamant on believing only a part of a story before taking any serious action.
