The Founder Secretary of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and Member of Legislative Assembly of Sivasagar Constituency Akhil Gogoi has written an Open Letter relating the Assamese-Meghalaya border dispute. By addressing all the Assamese people Gogoi wrote that regarding to the Assam-Meghalaya border issue, Assam has come to the settlement of 6 among 12 disputed areas which means total of 18.28 km per square of the 6 disputed areas are decided to give to the Government of Meghalaya while the rest 6 disputed areas are yet to be decided.

It is also noted that a meeting with the Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah has been attended by the CM of Assam and the CM of Meghalaya regarding the Assam-Meghalaya border dispute. Both the Government of Assam and Meghalaya has offered the proposal of “Give and Take formula” as a solution to this metter. Out of 36.80 kmsq under dispute, 18.51 kmsq would go to Assam and 18.29 Kmsq would go to Meghalaya according to this approach of “Give and Take”.

Gogoi further wrote that, According to the section 263, there is an Inter State Council which is formed by the Constitution of India for the settlement of such Border issues. Criticing this act of the both Government as ‘Cows donating to Brahmanas’ Gogoi wrote that this is the first time when a state is giving their own land to the other state.

According to Gogoi the areas invaded by Meghalaya are now given to them is the act of undemocratic. Gogoi has left an open question to the people thisof Assam to come out, to take stand, to question the Government and to take the right decision.
