The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday ordered the newly formed UPPL-led Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in Assam to prove its majority. The new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Pramod Bodo will have to face a confidence vote.
The high court has ordered for the confidence vote to be conducted before December 26.
The development has come due to a petition filed by Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) president and former BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary opposing the formation of the council by the United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) with the BJP and Gana Suraksha Party, contending that BPF as the single-largest party should have been allowed to form the council first.
