Assam records 590 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day increase in over 5 months

On Wednesday, Assam reported 590 new COVID-19 cases, with a positivity rate of 10.75 percent. The total number of active cases in the state has now risen to 2,584. However, 190 COVID patients were also discharged on the same day after recovering.

In the last 24 hours, one COVID fatality was reported in the state, from the Kamrup district in lower Assam. The health department increased testing across districts, reaching 5,489 on Wednesday, up from 4,157 on Tuesday. However, the positivity rate increased marginally from 10.44 percent the previous day.

On Wednesday, the Kamrup (Metro) district, which includes the state capital of Guwahati, reported 60 cases, followed by 59 cases in Goalpara District.
