Assam Repealing Bill 2022 compromising to repeal 48 obsolete Acts

Assam’s cabinet has resolved to introduce the Assam Repealing Bill, 2022, which will repeal 48 archaic Acts, some of which date back to 1793.

Assam Agricultural Pests and Diseases Act 1950, Assam Agriculturist Loans (Extension to United Khasi, Jaintia Hills District) Act 1963, Assam Dadan Act 1944, Assam Debt Conciliation Act 1936, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Dept: Assam Cattle Diseases Act 1948, Bengal Vaccination Act 1880, Assam Drugs (Control) Act 1950, Assam Health (Prohibition of Manufacturing, Advertise, trade, storage, Distribution, Sale and Consumption of Zarda, Gutkha, Panmasala etc. containing Tobacco and/or Nicotine) Act 2013, Assam Kala-Azar Treatment Act 1949, Rural Health Regulatory Authority Act 2004, Assam Apartments (Construction and Transfer of Ownership) Act 2006.

Assam Development Authorities Act 1964, Assam Municipal (Validation of Election) Act 1957, Assam Non-Agricultural Urban Areas Tenancy Act 1955, Assam Urban Immovable Property Tax Act 1969, Guwahati Non-Bio-Degradable Garbage (Control and Prevention) Act 2006, Environment & Forest Dept: Assam National Parks Act 1968, Assam Rhinoceros Preservation Act 1954, Assam Excise (Extension to Mizo) District Act  1961, Assam Private Fisheries Protection Act 1935, Assam Cement Control Act 1953, Assam Handicraft Artisan Welfare Fund Act 1998, Assam State Industrial Relief Undertakings (Special Provision) Act 1984, Assam Industries (Sales Tax Concessions) Act 1986, Press and Registration of Books (Extension to Lusai Hills) Act 1954, Assam Shramik Bahini Act 1959, Soil Conservation Dept: Sylhet Jhum Regulation 1891, Bijni Succession Act 1931, Assam Disorderly House Act 1936,(Bengal) Decennial Settlement Regulation Act 1793, Bengal Alluvion and Diluvion Regulation 1825, Bengal.

 

Other acts include the Inheritance Regulation 1793, the Bengal Inheritance Regulation 1801, the Bengal Land Revenue Regulation Act 1793, the Bengal Patni Taluks Regulation 1819, the Bengal Patni Taluks Regulation 1820, the Bengal Permanent Settlement Regulation 1793, the Indian Civil Services (Bengal) Loans Prohibition Regulation 1823, the Shillong (Rifle Range and Umlong Cantonments) Assimilation of State Lands Act 1953, the Land Improvement Loans (Extension to Mizo andUnited Khasi-Jaintia Hills Districts) Act 1963, Assam Courts of Wards (Delegation of Power) Act 1943, Assam, Revenue Recovery (Extension to Lushai Hills) Act 1954, Assam State Acquisition of Zamindaries (Extension) of Autonomous District of Garo Hills Act 1953, Land Acquisition (Dibrugarh) Act 1953, Court of Wards Act 1879,Assam Hindu Women’s Rights to property (Extension to Agriculture Land) Act 1943,Assam District-wise Population Pattern Reflection in Services (in Class Ill and Class IV Posts) Acts 1994.

Last week, the cabinet determined that 27 archaic Acts would be repealed by tabling the Assam Repealing Bill, 2022 in the next Assembly session, which will begin on September 12, 2022. The Cabinet also authorised Rs 500 crore for road projects in Bodoland.
