Amid the ongoing Assam SI exam scam investigation, one of the accused in the scam Akshay Chand’s godown mysteriously caught fire on Sunday.
It is being suspected that the godown contained important documents related to the SI scam. Before the CID team could lay their hands on the documents, the mysterious fire engulfed the whole godown.
The godown situated behind the Axis Bank of North Bongaigaon also contained ITC products of Deepak Baid, son of Chand.
Akshay Chand is the owner of Akshay Telecommunication, the company which got the sub-contract for conducting Assam Police SI examinations. Chand is currently on the run.
While Akshay Chand is absconding, a team of Assam Police including CID officials earlier raided the residence of Akshay Chand and one Rubul Hazarika in Bongaigaon. During the raid, the team recovered many important documents related to the scam.
Rubul was arrested by Nalbari Police on Friday in connection with the scam.
