Former DIG PK Dutta, prime accused in the Assam Police Sub-Inspector exam scam, was produced before the Kamrup (Metro) Chief Judicial Magistrate court on Wednesday. The court granted a 6-day remand to the CID, Assam.
Before being produced in court, the former IPS officer was taken to Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) for a checkup and reportedly he suffers from heart ailments, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
Dutta was brought back to Assam on Wednesday morning after he surrendered before West Bengal police in the Panitanki area in the Indo-Nepal border. He was later arrested and was handed over to Assam police on Tuesday evening.
Ever since the Assam Police SI exam scam came to limelight, Dutta has been absconding and reportedly fled to Nepal to avoid legal actions against him.
While investigating the scam, it was found out that the question papers were leaked via WhatsApp from Dutta’s phone.
The former DIG was arrested in connection with CID PS Case no 21/2020 u/s 409/120B IPC r/w 66 B IT Act.
