Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Crime Branch of Assam Police on Sunday conducted a raid and  sealed three hotels owned by PK Dutta, a former Assam Police force Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and the prime accused in the Assam Police Sub-inspector (SI) job scam, to prevent‘evidence tempering.’

The team of Crime Branch and CID sealed Hotel Bhargav, Bhargav Inn at Paltan Bazaar and Hotel Bhargav at Ganeshguri. The team has been conducted raids at the various properties owned by the former DIG.

Sources report that the investigating team brought the arrested candidates to the hotels to recreate the crime scene. The team also did videography to make sure that all the objects in the hotels were intact.

According to reports, CID and Crime Branch have information that the candidates prepared for the exams in these hotels and bribes to secure the job of Assam Police SI were also handed over in these hotels owned by the former tainted cop.

Raids are also being carried out at several other properties of PK Dutta.

Dutta has been on the run since Wednesday after his involvement in the scam came to light. However, the CID has been successful in nabbing Dutta’s driver Anowar Ali. The CID officers are currently interrogating Anowar Ali on the whereabouts of Dutta.

In the meantime, Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowala has urged the Director-General of Police to bring the culprits to book.
