Seven students from an Assam college have been suspended after being caught engaging in an “inappropriate act” in class. In the classroom, a group of boys and girls from the college’s Class 11 were hugging and poking each other. Another student in the same class videotaped the incident and later shared it on social media.

The incident occurred at Silchar’s Ramanuj Gupta College, a private-run institute in the state. The video quickly went viral, and netizens criticised the students’ actions. Some also blamed the college administration.

The videos were discovered by college officials on Wednesday, and seven students were immediately barred from attending classes. There were four girls and three boys among the seven.

The college administration issued a notice to the students, stating that they were clearly engaged in acts of turpitude. Such activities constitute a flagrant violation of the institution’s discipline. As a result, the following students were barred from attending classes for an indefinite period of time.

Purnadeep Chanda, the college’s principal, told IANS: “The students committed this heinous act during tiffin hours, when no teachers were present. We have CCTV cameras on the college grounds, and cell phones are also prohibited on campus.”

He also stated that the students are from the Class 11 freshmen class, and that they have only been attending college for about 15 days. Meanwhile, the college administration has summoned the seven students’ guardians. It has been learned that the college may take harsher action and the students may be expelled.
