Blast occur at Baghjan oil field during oil blowout

Tinsukia, 09.06.2020: In Tinsukia district of Assam a massive fire breaks out at the well no. 5 of the Baghjan Oil Field, the site of a major blowout that occurred on May 27. This incident has created a situation of terror among the locals, who have already been living in constant fear since the blowout took place.
Jayant Bormudoi, the senior manager (corporate communication), OIL said that
“The fire broke out at 1:40 pm at the site. The reason for the outbreak is not ascertained yet. Apart from a fireman of Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC), who sustained a minor injury, no one else has been injured,”
To ensure locals’ safety CM Sarbananda Sonowal directs Tinsukia district administration in a sensational incident, the producing well of Baghjan 5 under Baghjan Oil field of Oil India Limited in Tinsukia district of Assam on May 27 became active while workover operations were on, triggering the evacuation of several hundred locals to safer areas. The ongoing operations were immediately suspended and the well started releasing natural gas in an uncontrolled manner.
