Chandra Mohan Patowary faces rage of people on Baghjan issue

GUWAHATI, 12.06.2020: Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary visited Baghjan oil well site on Wednesday and he faces rage of people where more than 50 houses were burned. Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary has said that the fire is not a big issue; it will take 21 days to extinguish the fire. He was exasperated by the local people. There are violent protests around the well site.
The Minister also said that 7,000 people have been affected and damage will be compensated. It has led to the death of two fire fighters and displaced thousands. The extent of the damage both to humans and the environment is currently being assessed by the authorities.
Meanwhile Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday directed the Industry Minister to visit Baghjan to take stock of the ground situation. Minister Patowary on Wednesday held a series of meetings with the Tinsukia district administration, CMD and other top officials of Oil India Limited, oil field experts and representatives of various local organizations at Tinsukia.
