News Desk: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed the Home Department officials to constitute a committee in every district to study and make recommendations for strengthening the security arrangements at the health facilities to be put in place for the treatment of COVID positive jail inmates.
The Chief Minister in a meeting held at his official residence at Kharghuli on Sunday asked the officials to set up a three-member committee in every district comprising of an Additional Deputy Commissioner, Additional Superintendent of Police and Superintendent of Jail. He also directed the officials to take expeditious measures for the implementation of the recommendations of the committees in the districts. It may be mentioned that out of 31 jails in Assam, COVID positive cases have been reported from 7 jails so far.
The Chief Minister while reviewing the steps taken for setting up a separate COVID Care Centre at Guwahati Central Jail, asked the Principal Secretary of Health to expeditiously implement the same.
The Principal Secretary of Health, Sameer Sinha informed the Chief Minister about the jail inmates who have tested COVID positive and the steps taken for their treatment. The Inspector of Prisons apprised the Chief Minister about the security arrangements being made for the jail inmates.
Chief Minister’s Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami, Legal Adviser Santanu Bharali, Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, Additional Chief Secretary in charge of Home Department Jishnu Baruah, Principal Secretary to CM Sanjay Lohiya, ADGP (Law and Order) GP Singh, IG Prisons Dasarath Das, Commissioner of Police Munna Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro Biswajit Pegu and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
