Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday inaugurated the newly constructed building of the District Museum in Dibrugarh.
The District Museum will provide a permanent infrastructure combined with modern facilities for research, collection of artifacts, and its preservation.
The cost of the newly constructed three-storied building is about Rs. 3.43 crores and the building consists of six galleries, an auditorium, a basement for parking facility, and several office rooms.
The archaeological gallery has been completed and is open to the public. It has been developed under the Assam State Museum Management Society with a budget of about Rs. 11 lakhs.
CM Sarbananda Sonowal after inaugurating the new building visited the gallery which depicts the history of stone and terracotta scriptures collection found in the remains of the ancient and medieval Hindu temples and other archaeological sites in Assam.
The archaeological gallery also consists of a remarkable stone inscription that dates back to 675-725 AD. The gallery also consists of historic coins, textiles, manuscripts, arms-armors, and many such items.

Apart from the CM, Minister of State for Cultural Affairs Naba Kumar Doley, Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukon, Lahuwal MLA Rituparna Baruah and many other dignitaries were also present during the inauguration of the District Museum.
