A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable hailing from the Dhemaji district of Assam, Mritunjoy Chetia, was killed during a grenade attack by terrorists on December 23 in Ganderbal, Jammu & Kashmir.
Militants on Wednesday hurled a grenade on the CRPF party Mritunjoy Chetia was part of at Tawheed Chowk in Dudderhama area of Ganderbal, injuring three CRPF personnel including Chetia who later on succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.
Son of Sobilal Chetia and Chandika Chetia of Sisiborgaon in Dhemaji, Chetia was a part of the 115 battalion of the CRPF.
Appreciating his sacrifice, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted, “CRPF jawan from Assam Mrityunjoy Chutia exhibited exemplary valour and made supreme sacrifice while serving the nation in Jammu & Kashmir. Praying for eternal peace of the departed soul, I offer deepest condolences to the bereaved family. We stand shoulder to shoulder with them.”

The CRPF while paying tribute to the martyred Jawan tweeted,” We salute the valour & steadfast devotion to duty of CT/GD Mritunjoy Chetia of #115Bn #CRPF who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. He had suffered grievous injuries in yesterday’s grenade attack by terrorists in Ganderbal, J&K. We stand with the family of our Braveheart.”
