Assam’s Hima Das, the first Indian woman to win a gold in a World championships, has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics 2021. However, a formal announcement on this is yet to be made.
The 20-year old sprinter Hima Das, popularly known as ‘Dhing Express’, is the reigning 400m junior world champion and holds the current Indian national record in 400 metres with a timing of 50.79 s that she clocked at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The news of her qualification has made the people in her hometown of Dhing in Nagaon district elated and overjoyed.
The Tokyo Olympics was scheduled to be held in 2020 but due to the COVID-19, it got postponed to 2021. It will be held from July 23 to August 8.
