By the coming week, 20 companies of central security forces dispatched by the Election Commission of India (ECI) will begin coming in poll-bound Assam for area domination exercise. 20 other companies stationed in the state will join them.
States and union territories where Lok Sabha or Vidhan Sabha elections are to be taken place, Central Police Forces (CPF) are sent periodically for advance area domination, mainly in the critical and vulnerable sectors which are known by careful advance reviews and feedback from different sources like political parties and entities. This has been going on since the late 1980s.
According to an official at the office of the Assam chief electoral officer (CEO), a detailed deployment strategy to the state administration has been sent. The ECI, in a press note on Monday, said the CPFs have been sent to Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and UT of Puducherry where assembly elections are to take place.
The orders for CPF deployment were issued to the chief secretaries, the DGPs and the chief electoral officers of all the mentioned five states or UT on February 16.
A special force is coming for area domination which will be carried in some remote areas of the western Assam districts, said the senior official.
