After the state government allowed all public transport to operate with full passenger capacity, All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) has withdrawn the indefinite Chakka Bandh across the state.
The association on October 5 called the state-wise bandh demanding a fare hike of commercial vehicles, road tax reduction to 50 percent and allowing public transport to run with full capacity owing to the COVID-19 situation.
Speaking exclusively to Headline 8, Pradip Das, General Secretary All Assam Motor Transport Association, said, “After the government agreed to our demand, the fare for all passenger transport now remains the same what was before the pandemic.”
He stated that the transport association has informed all owners to make sure the price cap is not changed and remains what was earlier.
“Everyone has to follow this. The demands are fulfilled now, we have to take care of the passengers as well,” he added.
Following the bandh, the transport body held talks with the Assam government. Thereafter, the Department of Health and Family Welfare, in an order, agreed to allow 100 percent seating of passengers.
However, the order maintained that no vehicle will be allowed to carry passengers more than the allotted seating capacity. Every vehicle must have sanitizers and after completing every journey, the vehicle must be completely sanitized. Passengers including drivers and conductors must wear masks.
