An FIR has been filed against Mumbai based standup comedian Kunal Kamra in Hatigaon Police Station, Guwahati, Assam. One Santanu Saikia filed the FIR against the comedian for a tweet he posted on August 3, 2020.
In the tweet, Kamra mocked the Supreme Court’s decision to provide five-acre land to the Sunni Waqf Board at a prominent place in Ayodhya in lieu of the demolished Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.
“Breaking now-Supreme Court to allocate 5 acres of land to Coronavirus to spread disease somewhere else,” the tweet said.
The FIR against Kunal Kamra has been filed under Section 505 (2) IPC of Section 66 IT Act.
While speaking exclusively to Headline8, the Officer-in-Charge of Hatigaon PS said, “A case has been registered against Kunal Kamra by Santanu Saikia a resident of Guwahati for his tweet. The case has been forwarded to the cyber cell. They are investigating the matter.”
On this matter, the standup comedian tweeted that the FIR cannot harm him anyway.
