Flood emerging as a disaster again

GUWAHATI: Flood emerging as a disaster again, five upper Assam districts bearing the brunt of the second wave that has claimed one more life in Sivasagar. A total of 14 persons have died in the flood this year, including three in the second wave.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority stated, In the past 24 hours, the flood has affected a huge population and more than 5,000 hectares of crop lands in the districts of Dhemaji, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar and Dibrugarh.

A good number of affected people are taking shelter in 27 relief camps spread across the districts.

The Brahmaputra river has been flowing above the danger level in Jorhat and Dhubri districts. Its tributaries Dikhow and Disang in Sivasagar district, Dhansiri in Golaghat district and Jia Bharali in Sonitpur district are also flowing above the danger level.
