The Gauhati High Court (GHC) on Friday directed the Election Commission to declare the election dates of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) by November 20. The court also instructed the EC to issue election notification.
The order was issued based on a PIL (59/2020) seeking to conduct the BTC election.
A High Court bench comprising of Chief Justice (acting) N Kotiswar Singh and Justice Manish Choudhury asked the SEC to conduct the polls “in terms with the decision of the Council of Ministers’ meeting held on October 7, 2020”.
Meanwhile, the State Election Commission(SEC) earlier said that it will declare the poll dates after the Bihar elections result.
It is worth mentioning that the BTC elections will be conducted in ballots this year in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
