Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that his government will spend Rs 300 crore over the next three years to enhance and upgrade the facilities of the state’s district and sub-divisional courts.
He also advised individuals to use the courts solely for important concerns, rather than overloading the system with frivolous claims. Sarma stated during the inauguration of the newly constructed court building in Barpeta district that the state government will spend Rs 300 crore over the next three years to enhance and upgrade the infrastructure of district and sub-divisional judicial courts.
R M Chhaya, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, was in attendance. Sarma urged people to choose an out-of-court, traditional manner of resolving disputes through mediation by family elders in less serious problems, so that the formal judicial system could devote its manpower and time to serious concerns such as murder and rape.
Cases of a less serious nature are burdening the judiciary, he claims, causing justice for victims of terrible crimes to be delayed. Invoking ancient religious teachings, the chief minister emphasised the importance of everyone working together to create a society that is just, lawful, and humane.
