The Assam government is working to increase agricultural exports by increasing production of paddy,
millet, oil, pulses, and other crops. While attending the 7 th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog in Delhi on August 7, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma discussed the modernization of the agriculture sector.
The meeting focused primarily on reducing imports and finding new ways to produce paddy, millet, oil,
pulses, and other crops. “Last year, export was around Rs 50 lakh crore, and the prime minister is now working on increasing it,” Assam’s chief minister said.
“The main theme I’ve seen is that the prime minister wants to make India a ‘Aatmanirbhar’ country,
where imports to India are reduced and exports are increased,” he added. There was also a thorough discussion of National Education Policy. “In the discussion, I informed about the implementation of the National Education Policy, modernization of the agriculture sector, and urbanisation in the state,” Sarma said.
Later in the meeting, a thorough discussion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Har Ghar Tiranga, and urban
administration took place. “The third meeting of the central committee formed to celebrate Azadi Ki Amrit Mahotsav across the country was held yesterday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Sarma said.
