Guwahati Ropeway Service Reopens Today After Maintenance Work

Guwahati: The newly inaugurated Guwahati-North Guwahati ropeway over the River Brahmaputra is set to reopen today.  It was closed due to maintenance work.

The ropeway launched on August 24 was closed two days after for some maintenance work.

The ropeway is a remarkable feat as it the longest river ropeway of the entire country covering a total distance of 2 Km. Ropeway operating from Kachari Ghat in Panbazaar, up to the Dol Govinda Temple in North Guwahati. covers the distance in about 7 minutes.

The ropeway has two carriages and each carriage can carry 30 passengers. Passengers have to pay Rs 60 for a one-way ride, while a two-way commute costs Rs. 100.

The entire project has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 56 crore.

Assam Finance Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated India’s longest river ropeway in Guwahati on August 24.
