Guwahati Traffic Police’s Guidelines For Chhath Puja

The Guwahati Traffic Police (GTP) on Wednesday issued fresh traffic guidelines on the occasion of Chhath Puja in Guwahati on November 20 and 21.

This year Chhath puja will be held at Brahmaputra riverfront (Uzan Bazar to Bharalumukh), Basistha, Birubari fishery, Chandrapur, Chunsali, Pandu ghat, Maligoan Railway stadium, Lalmati, Khanapara Farmgate, Hatigoan, Jyotikuchi, Narengi, Pathar Quarry, Narengi and Azara.

The guidelines and protocols issued by GTP are
1. No vehicles will be allowed on MG Road except for worshippers.
2. Devotees can park their vehicles in MG Road and arrangements are also made for parking in TRP Road (Fancy Bazar), Lakhi Path, MS Road (Fancy Bazar), Chambers Road (Machkhowa) and SRCB Road (Lakhtokia). Parking space is also made available at Sonaram Field and MCH.
3. Public buses from Chandmari towards AT Road will go via District Library.
4. Vehicles from Bharalumukh will traverse through AT Road or HB Road.
5. Light vehicles will be allowed to cross GNB Road from TC School point.
6. Buses commuting from Khanapara will go through AT Road.
7. Heavy vehicles, ASTC buses traversing from outside Guwahati will not be allowed to enter the city and will be diverted towards NH- 37.
8. Trucks commuting from Lokhra, Gorchuk and Six Mile will be barred from entering the city on November 20.
9. On November 20, parking will be barred at ARB Road, AT Road, HB Road, MLN Road and SS Road from 7am onwards.
10. Parking is allowed in Chunsali and surrounding areas as well on the side of the road.
11. Chhath Puja volunteers are requested to assist the police in helping them during the occasion.
12. Commuters are requested to avoid MG Road during the festival and are advised to choose other routes.
