Recently an image went viral on social media claiming that the person in the image is Assam Congress leader Amjat Ali. The image claims  that he was detained by police along with arms, ammunition and grenades.
Headline8 in its investigation found that the claim is false.

Claim –
Facebook user Inderveer Gupta on June 17 shared an image and wrote :
“Assam Congress leader Amjat Ali was taken into custody with weapons and bullets in an apple box.
Himanta Biswa Sarma’s police messed up everything
Congress Hand… With terrorists!”
Another Twitter handle, cbpunjabi wrote :
“Assam’s Congress leader Amjat Ali taken into custody with weapons and bullets in an apple box.
However, Assam police foiled the plan.
Congress hand…with terrorists.”

Investigation –
Headline8 did a fact check of the viral image and here is what was revealed:
A reverse google image search was done on the viral image circulating on Social media.
During the investigation Headline8 found out that the man in chains in the image is not Congress leader Amjat Ali.
Image 1 :
During the reverse google image search Headline8 found out that the image dates back to May 6, 2018. The person was arrested in Mymensingh district, Bangladesh and was accused of sexual assault of a minor girl.

The name of the person in chains is Mubarak Hussain.
Furthermore, a comparison of police uniform was done and it confirms incident was from Mymensingh district.

Image 2 :
During the reverse google image of the second image, it took Headline8 team to a series of Tweets dating back to October, 2018.
The most prominent was a Tweet by Jammu and Kashmir Police which was published on October 29, 2018.
The Tweet stated – “A brief exchange of fire on the outskirts of Srinagar city. Three suspected militants arrested among them one is injured.Arms and ammunition recovered. Investigations started.”

At the last part of the investigation, Headline8 scanned the profiles of the above mentioned Facebook and Twitter users.
Facebook user Inderveer Gupta has more than 400 friends.
Meanwhile, cbpunjabi has more than 15,900 followers on Twitter.

Conclusion –
The image that claims that Amjat Ali, a Congress leader of Assam was arrested along with arms and ammunition is fake.
Headline8 after an intense investigation claims that the image is fake.
The person in the image is not Congress leader Amjat Ali. The original person in the image is Mubarak Hussain, an accused from Mymensingh district, Bangladesh.
