Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the tricolour will be sold for Rs 18 per piece in government fair price shops across the state. According to him, the state government has done everything possible to ensure that the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ movement is a huge success in Assam.
The actions of the Narendra Modi government are intertwined with the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, which is part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.’ It aims to encourage people to hoist the National Flag at their residences/homes to mark India’s 75th year of independence. The idea behind the initiative is to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of the people and to promote awareness about the Indian National Flag.
“The tricolour will be available for Rs 18 in the fair price shops that sell food items. However, self-help organisations (SHGs) have produced larger flags that may cost Rs 100 or Rs 150, and we encourage government and commercial organisations to purchase them via SHGs. People, who cannot pay more, will buy from the fair price shops”, stated Sarma.
He has urged the state’s SHGs to produce nearly 30 lakh “Tirangas.” “It is very encouraging that the SHGs have already been able to sell more than 10 lakh flags in Assam,” Sarma added. The state government, he said, has decided to purchase 50 lakh national flags from the Union Textile Ministry.
Sarma urged people to change their profile pictures on social media accounts to a tricolour image. On the occasion, Sarma released a video of the theme song of “Har Ghar Tiranga,” in which several renowned singers, artistes, and state leaders took part.
“From August 2 to 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an appeal to raise public awareness about the “Har Ghar Tiranga” initiative. Sarma stated that his government has requested that tea garden owners provide each worker with a flag. The mall owners have also been asked to provide one flag to each of their employees, he said. As with New Year’s greetings, we can exchange tricolours on various occasions before August 15 to make it a people’s movement,” Sarma added.
Twenty-two lakh families receiving monthly financial assistance under the Orunodoi scheme will receive Rs 18 extra in August to purchase the national flag. “On the 10th day of each month, we disburse Rs 1,000 to each of 22 lakh families. In August, they will get Rs 1,018 – Rs 18 more to buy a flag,” Sarma stated.
