Huge cache of arms and ammunitions recovered from Chirang Forest

Guwahati, 15 June: Chirang based unit of the Indian Army along with the Assam Police, 210 Cobra battalion and 6 Battalion SSB has unearthed a huge stockpile of arms and ammunition in Chirang District.

he recovery of arms, ammunition and explosives was made from deep inside the Chirang Reserve Forest. Acting on a tip regarding the presence of illegal arms and ammunition in the forest area of Lal Pathar in Chirang, a collaborative effort was carried out.

After a massive search of twelve continuous days in the forest involving deep search metal detectors a suspected spot was detected. On further digging by Army personnel a hidden cache of arms and ammunition was discovered. A large amount of firearms, ammunition, grenades and RPGs were found in the cache.

After making the recovery, the local police stated that efforts were going on to maintain peace and calm in the region. It is being suspected that the recovered cache could be used to create unrest and tensions in the BTR region of Assam, which is on the path to peace and harmony as all the NDFB factions have come over ground and dissolved their outfits.

This is the second major success of the Army and police in the region after recovering a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Karbi Anglong district on June 3rd, 2020. This is a part of the drive to free the Bodoland region from illegal weapons, the Police said.
