News Desk: Assam Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that a 40-member committee will be formed for recommendations of implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) policy in Assam.
Himanta Biswa Sarma said “Thus, we are forming a 40-member committee under the supervision of the Principal Secretary of Education. The committee shall come into existence with several departments which will look into each aspect of implementing the new reforms”.
The committee will start functioning in the next 7 days, added the minister.
The new policy aims to overhaul the educational structure in the country. It advocates for a new 5+3+3+4 school curriculum, covering children in the age group of 3-18 years. It aims for universalization of education from pre-school to secondary level with 100% GER in school education by 2030.
Pre-school education for children of ages 3 to 5 under the ambit of formal schooling. But, the mid-day meal programme will be extended to pre-school children.
Therefore if students wish to leave after studying for 1 year, they will get a certificate; if they wish to leave after 2 years, they’ll get a diploma; students who wish to leave after 3 years will get a degree, and on completion of 4 years course, they will get degree + research.
