State Governor Jagdish Mukhi gave assent to the historic ‘Assam Repealing Act 2020’. This act will convert all government-run Madrassas into general education institutes.

Based on the development, Madrassa Edu Provincialisation Act, 1995, and Assam Madrassa Education Act, 2018 stand repealed.
Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has termed this step as ‘Historic’ and ‘Progressive’.
