Mangaldoi MP Dilip Saikia Appointed as BJP National General Secretary

In a major reshuffle in its office bearers, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday appointed Lok Sabha MP from Assam’s Mangaldoi constituency Dilip Saikia as one of the national general secretaries.

Talking to a local newspaper, Dilip Saikia said, “I thank national BJP president JP Nadda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, State Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Das for the party entrusting me such a big responsibility. Holding this post I can bring the problems of Assam and other States of the Northeast at the national level in the party. I can play my part to strengthen the party in the eight states of the Northeast.”

The new appointments were announced by BJP president JP Nadda in a reorganization that party sources had said was aimed at combining young people, women as well as experienced faces.

Meanwhile, former party general secretary, in-charge of the Northeast, Ram Madhav, has been removed from his position.

Nadda has accommodated 3 former chief ministers as BJP vice-presidents while there has been a major overhaul among national general secretaries with many significant names dropped and new faces are given a chance.

Among the prominent changes was the appointment of Tejasvi Surya, an MP from Karnataka, as president of the youth wing Yuva Morcha in place of Poonam Mahajan.
