A massive earthquake of 6.4 magnitude on the richter scale hit Assam on Wednesday morning. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the epicenter was at Dhekiajuli,a town 43km west of Tezpur.
Jolts were felt in Guwahati and other parts of the Northeast. The tremors created panic among people who rushed out of their homes. There were no immediate reports of loss of life, although damage of property in some places has been noted.
