Massive Fire In Jorhat; Two Killed While Three Severely Injured

Assam: A massive fire broke out in Jorhat on Sunday midnight. The fire incident occurred at the Thakur Bari area of Jorhat town.
The fire claimed the lives of two persons and injured several others. Three people were severely injured and were shifted to JMCH, Jorhat. The three injured were identified as Mahendra Agarwal, Krishna Gopal Agarwal, and Usha Singhi. The two persons who succumbed to the fire were Satyanarayan Agarwal and Gomti Devi. All of them belonged to the Singhi family.

The fire broke out at Singhi Scooters’ business establishment. According to reports, the fire spread to four dwellings injuring several people. Many dived into the Tocklai river to save their lives.

Firefighters from Jorhat, Sivasagar and Golaghat districts reached the spot to douse the flame. It took the fire tenders around 5 hours to extinguish the inferno. The fire began at around 11:30 pm and was extinguished at about 4 am.
Fire tenders from Air Force, NRL, and ONGC also helped to douse the massive fire.

The fire started at the Singhi scooter spare parts shop. It later spread to Pawan Furnitures which was situated near the spare parts shop.
Fire personnel are still determining the cause of the inferno which consumed the two buildings. Yet, several local suspects that the fire was due to short circuit.
One of the buildings was a one-storeyed and the other was three-storeyed. Officials have not yet assessed the total damage caused.
