Massive Scam on Meghalaya FCI Rice Revealed in Chaygaon IGC

A massive scam with the Food Corporation of India’s (FCI) supply rice has been revealed in the Chaygaon Industrial Growth Center on Thursday.

The corruption was revealed after a truck loaded with rice bags stopped in Nadaipara village on June 1.
Villagers suspecting something wrong called the Boko Police station. The truck was seized by Boko Police due to suspicious documents of rice bags.
Later Boko Police took the statements of the truck driver and co-driver and investigated the matter.
Based on the information provided by the truck driver and co-worker, Boko Police team led by OC Sanjit Kumar Ray and the circle officer of Chaygaon revenue conducted a raid on ‘Maruti Quality Products Pvt. Ltd’ industry. It is a tied-up company with Nestle multinational Food company.
During the raid, police and administrative officials found that FCI supplied rice packing into the East Sunrise Brand bags.

Maruti Quality Products Pvt. Ltd industry changed the FCI supply rice to East Sunrise Brand Rice by changing the FCI bags to Sunrise Brand Rice bags and is supplied to the Assam Rifles.
• East Sunrise Brand rice is actually the part of ‘Continental Milkose India Ltd’ and the owner is Deepak Agarwal.
After investigating the matter, FCI Meghalaya, Shillong division sent the rice under the Wheat Based Nutrition Programme and National Food Security Act. 2013 through the Directorate of Social Welfare Meghalaya, Shillong.

Regarding the matter, police have arrested seven persons of the company for investigation and have also seized 13 trucks.
Police have also seized more than one lakhs bags of FCI Rice from the industry.

Due to the recent turn of events, various local organizations like AASU, ARSU, and other local people have flared up on the company.
All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU) Kamrup District President Ajit Rabha said that this is a reprehensible scam by the company. The company snatched food from poor people which the government distributed under the National Food Security Act.
He also added that this scam matter should be investigated with high-level authority.

Boko Police are still investigating this matter.
