Lok Sabha MP Naba Kumar Sarania was detained by Assam Police on Tuesday night, ahead of the second phase of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections in the State.
The Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) President was apprehended along with 11 accomplices for distributing cash in Salakati, Kokrajhar district on Tuesday night.
Speaking to media an Assam Police official stated that they were informed about the distribution of money in Salakati village of Kokrajhar district.
The GSP party President along with his 11 supporters was brought to Kokrajhar Police station and were kept overnight. They were all released on Wednesday morning.
However, the MP denied all the allegation registered against him. While speaking to media he said, “We don’t have the required fund to distribute among the villagers, moreover we don’t need to lure people to vote for us. I am confident that they will vote for us. I came to Salakati to have dinner with the family members of my expired friend Utpal Rabha.”
“There is a huge conspiracy behind my arrest” the GSP leader added.
