NDRF Participation in Joint Mock Drill With IOCL Betkuchi

News  Desk: Team of NDRF participated in a Joint mock drill with IOCL Betkuchi Terminal, Fire & Emergency Services, Health Services, 108 Ambulance Service, IOCL staff, Betkuchi, Guwahati, Assam in presence of GM IOCL.

Sumoti Mohan, REP of Guwahati oil refinery, REP of Sarpara bottling plant, REP of Indane oil Betkuchi, and Sh A K Bhatachariya Inspector of Factories. 1st BN NDRF took active participation & assisted plant employees in planning & co-ordination at the initial stage. Rescuers of NDRF participated in an exercise with all required response tools & equipment in the exercise.

NDRF rescuers during the exercise established command post & medical base in safety prone areas so that monitor the situation & provide Prehospital treatment to victims. During the mock drill, effective methodology & response drills were rehearsed & practiced to ensure effective speedy   & safe operation with very limited equipment.

Mock drills generate mass awareness in all sections of society. This kind of mock drills also develops better coordination which is essential to respond to actual disaster situations moreover disaster response is not only the task of specialized groups; community groups, youths working personnel, NGOs, various authorities & civil administration also play an instrumental role for effective & accountable disaster management.

The community should be aware of hazardous installations & know how to combat the situation. The local community has to be informed about the response steps to be taken in case of an accident community member should monitor the pollution levels of the industry & participate in mock drills for evacuation.

It is little or no warning of industrial chemical accidents the loss incurred is very high. There is a huge loss to life property livelihood & environment, Hazardous materials in various forms can cause death, serious injury & damage to buildings, homes & other properties. The areas close to an industrial setup under immediate threat.

Approx 150 personnel of NDRF, Fire Services, Health Services, 108 Ambulance Service, IOCL staff Betkuchi, Guwahati, Assam witnessed the joint mock drill. After the exercise, a de-briefing session was done in which the role of NDRF was highly appreciated by a huge gathering of local public, bureaucrats civil administration, in successfully conducting the joint mock drill.

The exercise concluded with a note to organize more such exercise in the future so that the effective response operations during an industrial disaster could be carried out to save precious human lives.
