One of the most renowned poet of Assam Nilamani Phukan has been named for the Jnanpith Award few months ago. A good news has come with it when an announcement stated that the Jnanpith Award to Nilamani Phukan will be presented at Rabindra Bhawan in Guwahati. This happened for the first time that the Jnanpith Award will be presented at Guwahati.
It is also noted that on 11th April the award will be presented to the renowned legendary poet. The Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma will also be present at the event. Along with him all the members of the Jnanpith Committee will be present on the occasion.
The son of Nilamani Phookan Amitabh Phookan will deliver a 15 minutes speech on behalf of the poet at the event.
It may be recalled that Nilmani Phukan is the third person to win the Jnanpith Award from Assam. Before him Mamani Roysam Goswami and Virendra Kumar Bhattacharya had won the Award and both of them had accepted the award in Delhi. His notable works are ‘Xurjya Henu Naami Aahe Ei Nodiyedi’, ‘Kabita’, and ‘Gulapi Jamur Lagna’.
