NLFB Chief M Batha finishes negotiations with Assam Police, surrenders along with 22 cadres

National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) chief M Batha along with 22 of his cadres have decided to surrender after finishing negotiations with the Assam Police in Udalguri on Thursday.

The meeting took place in the presence of Assam Police Special DGP G P Singh and peace mediators Thulunga Basumatary and Prithviraj Narayan Dev Mech, who were also the mediators of the third Bodo Peace Accord after which M Batha had left the disgruntled NDFB and formed the NLFB.

“We would like to publicly declare that respecting upon the call of the Hon’ble CM, Assam and the initiatives taken under the guidance of the Special DGP, Assam, Shri G.P. Singh, IPS, and other concerned authorities of the Assam Police, our organization NLFB has decided to come overground and join the mainstream onwards for the best interest of the state and for upholding the peace and integrity of the region,” NLFB wrote in a statement.

Welcoming the decision, Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “ People’s trust in the Govt policies is reflected by NLFB’s decision to return to the mainstream today. I welcome their homecoming.”
