On the occasion of World Environment Day, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma declared Raimona Sanctuary as a National Park. Thereby, Raimona has become the 6th National Park of the state.
In addition, the Chief Minister also announced that preliminary work for the recognition of Dihing Patkai Sanctuary as a National Park has started.
“Govt has decided to upgrade Raimona Sanctuary in BTR to a National Park; work is also underway to give national park status to Dehing Patkai. Science & Technology Department of Sate Govt is being rechristened as Dept of Science, Technology and Climate Change, from today,” Assam CM tweeted.

According to the forest department, a proposal for upgrading 422 sq km of notified Ripu reserve forest under Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve as the proposed Raimona National Park has been submitted to Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi.
