Eight-time MLA from the Bongaigaon constituency of Assam, Phani Bhusan Choudhury will be sworn-in as the pro-tem speaker of the Assam assembly by Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah on Wednesday.
Pro-tem speaker is a temporary speaker who presides over the first meeting of the legislative assembly after the general elections besides presiding over the sitting in which the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are elected if it is a newly constituted House.
Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi who is out of station has given the authority to conduct the swearing-in to the Chief Secretary.
Meanwhile, pro-tem speaker Phani Bhusan Choudhury will administer the oath to secrecy to all the newly elected 125 MLAs before the three-day session of the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly which starts from May 21.
