Keeping the upcoming Assam Assembly elections in mind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched major projects in the state.
PM Modi through video conferencing laid the foundation stone of India’s longest bridge connecting Dhubri in Assam to Phulbari in Meghalaya. The 19 km bridge will play an important role in connecting the two states. The four-lane bridge to be built at an estimated cost of 4,997 crore will run over the Brahmaputra river and reduce the distance from 205km to 19 km.
In addition, the Prime Minister launched the Mahanahu-Brahmaputra programme which was marked by the inauguration of the Ro-Pax vessels operations between Neamati-Majuli Island, North Guwahati-South Guwahati, and Dhubri-Hatsingimari. The program is aimed at providing seamless connectivity to the Eastern parts of India and includes various development activities for the people living around River Brahmaputra and River Barak.
Narendra Modi also participated in the bhumi-pujan for the two-lane bridge which will connect Majuli to Jorhat. The bridge will be located on NH-715 has been a longstanding demand of Majuli who for decades have depended on ferry services for connectivity with mainland Assam.
