With the surge in covid cases in Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal appealed to citizens to religiously follow COVID protocols in order to avoid another lockdown.
Speaking to the press on Friday, Chief Minister Sonowal said,” Looking into the present situation, we have already issued directives which shall remain in force till April 30, 2021. We request the citizens of Assam to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 protocols in order to lessen the crisis situation. We are not in favour of imposing any lockdown in the state, but, if the current situation continues to deteriorate, then we might have to go to that stage as well.”
As of April 23rd, the state has recorded 2,384 fresh COVID cases, pushing the active tally to 12,595.
Previously, the Assam Government had imposed restrictions all over the state on opening of public places like restaurants, movie halls and retail shops, etc after 6 pm to prevent the escalation of covid cases.
