The Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve (KNPTR), Assam has recorded over 11 thousand visitors in a month since its reopening on October 21.

The national park was closed for almost 8 months due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The cautious domestic and foreign tourists are still avoiding the KNPTR where the elephant safari started again on November 1. Most of the visitors now are locals and people from elsewhere in Assam and the adjoining North-Eastern states.

According to the Director of the park P Shiv Kumar, the total number of tourists that visited the National Park during the last one month is 11,968, out of which 27 were foreign tourists.
Kaziranga park is considered the world’s safest spot for the one-horned rhinoceros and the annual tourist season for the park is from October to November.

It is estimated that the World Heritage site earns about Rs. 5 crores from tourists. However, this year tourism ventures in Kaziranga suffered gravely due to the pandemic and also due to the violent protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in December 2019.
