Movement of vehicles resumed between Assam and Mizoram from Monday as the blockade on National Highway (NH) 306 was lifted after 12 days as the border tension between the two states eases.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mizoram Lalbiathanga Khiangte stated that on Monday till 4 pm, 23 vehicles entered the state from Assam with police escorts, and till evening, 31 vehicles have crossed Mizoram and entered Assam.
Border Security Force (BSF) has been deployed in disputed areas of Vairengte and Saihapui in the Kolasib district of Mizoram which borders Assam’s Cachar district.
At present, the situation on the inter-state border is normal and there is no fresh violence.
The border dispute between the two states intensified on October 9 when plantations were destroyed by officials of Assam on farmland near Thinghlun village, Mizoram.
