After being shut for more than seven months due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, schools in Assam reopened from Monday.
Earlier, the authority issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) which directs the school authorities to take utmost care and strictly observe all the COVID-19 protocols. Students of class 6 and above can attend classes, but only after consent from parents.
The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the state government on Friday stated that classes for students of VI, VIII, X, and XII will be conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays while the students of Class VII, IX, and XI, classes will be attending classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
The SOP also includes timetables for colleges, engineering colleges, polytechnic institutions, and ITIs.
College students of first, third, and fifth semesters will have classes for two, three, and four days respectively every week. Classes will start in two phases and each phase can have a maximum of 25 students.
The classes will begin early in the morning and will maintain a proper gap between classroom timings of two groups of students, toilets must be kept clean and sanitized.
The Education Department has also instructed schools to provide iron and folic acid tablets to students for boosting their immunity along with yoga classes and regular health screening of students, teachers, and staff members.
