Due to the “scorching heat,” all schools in the Kamrup Metro district have been asked to stop holding
morning assemblies on open fields. On Tuesday, the state’s elementary education department issued an order.
“I would like to inform you that keeping in mind the scorching heat, all Govt/provincialized/private
schools are hereby requested to hold the morning assembly inside the classrooms,” said Prasanna
Borah, inspector of schools. Only special occasions may be observed on the assembly field. This is for
your required action.”
This order was issued after a 10-year-old schoolgirl died on August 6 from an alleged heat stroke.
According to reports, the girl suffered a stroke on August 4 during a condolence meeting at the school
campus, where students were required to remain standing for nearly an hour.
The school administration was accused of concealing the fact that the girl fainted due to the heat.
