Senior SSB Officers Review Situation at Indo-Bhutan Border Ahead of BTC Polls

With the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls in Assam getting close, senior Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) officers on Wednesday reviewed the prevailing situation along the India-Bhutan, officials informed.

Inspector General of SSB Guwahati Frontier Sanjeev Sharma visited the India-Bhutan border in the Udalguri district to review the security situation.

He also visited the border outposts at Nalapara and Rajagarh, besides participating in an area domination operation.

IG Sharma briefed the troops to enhance alertness and maintain a constant vigil on the suspicious movements on the border for the peaceful conduct of the BTC elections.

He directed action against those involved in the smuggling of illegal foreign liquor, arms, and currency to disrupt the peace of the area or attempt to influence the elections.

The first round of voting of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls will be held on December 7 in Udalguri and Baksa. The second round of voting will commence on December 10 in Kokrajhar and Chirang. In case of discrepancy, re-polling will be held on December 8 and 11. The counting of votes will take place on December 12.
