News Desk: Several districts in Assam have banned travel to and from the State’s largest city, Guwahati. This decision came following the alarming increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Guwahati and the rest of the Kamrup (M) district. This came as a preventive measure to prevent the spread of Coronavirus disease.
On Wednesday, Darrang, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh and Saraidew districts imposed a ban on travel to and from Guwahati.
The Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar, Lakhinandan Gogoi on July 7 issued an order which stated that travel between Sivasagar and Kamrup (M) has been terminated.
Likewise, people who returned to Dibrugarh from Guwahati will have to follow 14-day home quarantine. Karbi Anglong also followed the procedure.
Majuli district Administration has also totally banned the travel of people from Kamrup (M) and Jorhat district.
Meanwhile, in order to curb the recent spike of COVID-19 positive cases in Golaghat, the district Administration declared lockdown in Golaghat Municipal Town Areas.
In a statement, Golaghat District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO) said that the lockdown will be enforced from 7 PM of July 9 to 7 PM of July 17.
On Tuesday, a total of 10 districts declared a travel ban from Kamrup (M). The districts are- Dhubri, Kokrajhar, South Salmara, Morigaon, Nagaon, Barpeta, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Biswanath, and Tinsukia.
Anyone traveling to the following districts from Guwahati will have to strictly abide by the administration’s 14-day quarantine rule.
This desperate decision was taken by the district administrations as a step to stop the spread of the virus from Kamrup (M) to their representative districts.
