A wildlife case has been registered by Sivasagar Range under Sivasagar Territorial Forest Division against the six culprits for violation of the provisions of the section- 9 R/W section-2 (16) & (35) and section-52 and punishable as per the section-51 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 along with Assam Amendment Act 2009.

The arrested accused caused death of the two elephants by laying illegal electric fencing around Rabi crops in illegal cultivation area in Digholdorioli grazing land.

Material evidence were seized from the field and preliminary report by Veterinary Officer conducting on spot showed signs of electrocution death in both the elephants.

All the six accused persons were apprehended on December 26 on the day of detection of the Wildlife offense by Forest team from Sivasagar Forest Division.

After interrogation and investigation, the six accused persons were arrested on December 27 and produced before the CMJ, Sivasagar, and sent to judicial custody.

The Six culprits were involved in causing the electrocution death of two adult female wild Asian elephants.
