News Desk: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the newly built building of Water Resources Divisional Office and Guesthouse at Garmur in Majuli and dedicated it to the service of the people. It may be noted that the project started in 2016-17 under the State-Owned Priority Development fund, the building was built involving a financial outlay of Rs. 7.44 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said that for the infrastructural development of Majuli, the Government of Assam has been taking a series of measures.
He also attributed the formation of a high-powered committee under the leadership of the vice-chairman of NITI Aayog to the futuristic and personal initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring to an enduring solution to the perennial flood and erosion problem of the state. A bill will be introduced in the Parliament and once it is passed North East Water Management Authority will become into force for finding a permanent solution to flood and erosion in the region.
Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta, MP Pradan Barua, MLAs Bimal Bora, Ranoj Pegu also spoke on the occasion. CEM, Deuri Autonomous Council Madhab Deuri, DC Bikram Kairi, and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
